How closely-knit is the martian atmosphere system?

Processes at Mars extending between its surface and boundary to space need to be investigated comprehensively (spatial and temporally) to better understand the strong coupling that the atmosphere has within its different altitude regions, within its different atmospheric populations, and with external solar inputs.
