Whitepaper #111 in the Decadal Survey for Solar and Space Physics (Heliophysics) 2024-2033. Main topics: basic research. Additional topics: outer heliosphere; emerging opportunities.
Turbulence plays a fundamental role in the solar wind–LISM interaction and in controlling energetic particle transport and acceleration. Its properties in the outermost regions of the heliosphere are poorly understood. This paper summarizes the open challenges and voices our support for the development of space missions dedicated to the study of turbulence throughout the heliosphere and beyond.
