Resolving the O⁺-O Cross-Section and its Impact on the Upper Atmosphere

O+ velocity distribution distortions are a known result of O+-O collisions, yet the cross-section between these species (and thus the momentum transfer collision frequency) is not known. This white paper calls for an examination of the O+-O collision cross-section and the collision frequency vertical profile using ground-based and space-based (e.g. GDC, DYNAMIC, Daedalus, ASTRE) instrumentation.
