The Importance of Fundamental Research on the Upper Coronal and Heliospheric Evolution of Coronal Mass Ejections
Coronal mass ejections are a cornerstone of heliophysics. It is essential to address the evolution of CMEs in the upper corona and inner heliosphere, independent of their space weather impact through a comprehensive research program. Such a program should include components of data analysis, theory, model and simulation development and lead to new missions and instrumentation.
