Whitepaper #271 in the Decadal Survey for Solar and Space Physics (Heliophysics) 2024-2033. Main topics: space weather applications; basic research. Additional topics: space weather research/applications/operations pipeline; inner heliosphere; system science.
Solar wind creation and early evolution is fundamental to Heliophysics. Advances require reliably tracking individual packets of solar wind from the low corona to 1 AU. We need 360°, high-resolution, high-cadence coronal and solar wind measurements. These are bottom-line requirements to advance basic research, space weather modeling, and operational forecasting.
