Whitepaper #293 in the Decadal Survey for Solar and Space Physics (Heliophysics) 2024-2033. Main topics: space weather applications; basic research. Additional topics: space weather research/applications/operations pipeline; planetary ionospheres / upper atmospheres; other […]
Scintillation is a major space weather hazard that hinders radio communication and navigation. Despite this importance, critical questions concerning scintillation in relation to larger-scale ionospheric phenomena remain. We advocate for coordinated and simultaneous space and ground-based measurements of plasma and multi-frequency scintillation to determine the underlying physical processes.
