Whitepaper #298 in the Decadal Survey for Solar and Space Physics (Heliophysics) 2024-2033. Main topics: basic research. Additional topics: laboratory space plasma physics; space-based missions/projects; user-need-driven basic space weather research.
This paper motivates new multi-point, multi-scale, critical measurements in the solar wind (SW) that are required to improve our fundamental understanding of the 3-D, large to intermediate-scale structures and processes in the SW; their azimuthal variation, radial evolution; and impact on particle acceleration, heating, and transport, thus motivating the Seven Sisters mission concept.
