Understanding MLT Energetics Through Observations of Nitric Oxide

We propose that during the next decade of research, the NSF and NASA community invest in developing and flying Middle Ultraviolet (MUV: 200 to 300nm) spectrographic imagers for mapping the important tracer of ITM processes: Nitric Oxide (NO). Understanding composition changes in response to solar and geomagnetic forcing is crucial to understanding the energy balance of the upper atmosphere.
