Observing Coronal Microscales and their Connection with Mesoscales

Coronal heating remains a fundamental open problem in space physics. It is expected that thermal structure on scales ≲100 km will be produced by primary heating mechanisms operating on kinetic scales. We consider what could be learned from direct observations of coronal microscales and their connection with larger scales. We briefly outline a mission concept for the Coronal Microscale Observatory.
