Whitepaper #343 in the Decadal Survey for Solar and Space Physics (Heliophysics) 2024-2033. Main topics: space weather applications; basic research. Additional topics: planetary magnetospheres; other space weather; space-based missions/projects; system science.
Continuous Global Auroral Imaging provides key forecasting information for space weather events and their effect on technology and infrastructure. This includes geomagnetically induced currents in power grids, spacecraft surface charging, and satellite drag. With two spacecraft per hemisphere in a highly elliptical Tundra orbit we can provide high resolution auroral and thermospheric imagery.
