Expanding the Deep Space Network to support the Heliophysics System Observatory

As heliophysics satellites move beyond low Earth orbit, heliophysics research and space weather forecasting increasingly depend on the Deep Space Network (DSN). Already the primary constraints in mission scope and design are data downlink limitations, not instrument capabilities. Enabling future heliophysics discoveries requires expansion of the DSN and investment in communication technologies.
