Presentation #103.02 in the session Missions and Instruments.
The Compton Spectrometer and Imager (COSI), a 0.2-5 MeV Compton telescope, is NASA’s next Small Explorer satellite mission and is scheduled to launch in 2027. To familiarize the astrophysics community with COSI data analysis prior to launch and aid in the development of the analysis pipelines, the COSI team is preparing a series of yearly Data Challenges that will increase in sophistication each year. The COSI data pipelines have been developed over a number of years through the COSI Balloon instrument. This first Data Challenge, which is planned for release on GitHub in fall 2022, serves as an introduction to the high-level analysis tool COSIpy and focuses on the COSI Balloon 2016 flight data. In this presentation, I will discuss standard Compton telescope analysis, the preliminary COSIpy imaging and spectral analysis tools, and how interested users can get started with COSI data.
