The X-ray Telescope Focal Plane Assembly for the STAR-X mission

STAR-X, the Survey and Time-domain Astrophysical Research eXplorer, is a MIDEX mission recently selected for a NASA competitive phase A study. STAR-X pairs a next-generation soft X-ray telescope (XRT) with a powerful high-heritage UV telescope on an agile platform with < 2 hour response to TOOs. The XRT Focal Plane Assembly, provided by MIT, consists of four back-illuminated CCDs, 16.8 megapixels total, to cover the 1 deg2 field of view. We outline the components of the XRT Focal Plane Assembly and their function, describe the characteristics of the CCD focal plane, and plans for ground calibration. More information on STAR-X is available at http://star-x.xraydeep.org/.
