Retention and Ejection of Intermediate Mass Black Holes from Dense Star Clusters by Fewbody Scattering

The detection of GW190521 has shown unambiguously that black holes above 100 solar masses, so called intermediate mass black holes, are produced in the Universe. One proposed channel for producing such objects is through the successive mergers of high mass post-main sequence giant stars within dense stellar environments. This begs the question of their fate following formation in these dense environments. We explore this question through scattering experiments of binary-single and binary-binary encounters of black holes with intermediate mass ratios 0.01-0.35. We find that binary-mediated interactions play a large role in ejecting large black holes from dense stellar environments.
