Early On-Orbit Results from the Glowbug Gamma-Ray Transient Telescope

The Glowbug gamma-ray transient telescope is designed to provide high sensitivity for Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) at modest size, weight, and power using new sensor technologies and at modest cost using commercial data acquisition electronics. Funded by NASA as a technology demonstrator, Glowbug is the pathfinder for the StarBurst Multi-Messenger Pioneer. Glowbug is expected to launch in February 2023 on the DoD Space Test Program STP-H9 bus to the International Space Station. During its one-year mission, Glowbug is expected to detect dozens of short GRBs, the electromagnetic signatures of binary neutron star mergers and the counterparts of gravitational wave transients. We will summarize the instrument design and report on early on-orbit science performance and results.
