Presentation #207.01 in the session X-ray Polarimetry Results and Opportunities.
The Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) is a joint NASA-Italian Space Agency Small Explorer mission that was launched on December 9th, 2021. The instrument on-board is composed of three Gas Pixel Detectors (provided by Italy) based on the photoelectric effect. These detectors are placed at the focus of three X-ray optics modules (provided by NASA), and are performing angular, time and energy resolved X-ray polarimetry, in the 2-8 keV band, from tens of sources. In this contribution I will describe the instrument and review its in-flight operational status.
