When Hubble Met Pandeia: Introducing the Pandeia-based HST Exposure Time Calculator

We introduce a new version of the HST Exposure Time Calculator (ETC) based on the Pandeia software that powers the JWST ETC. This new version of the HST ETC, the alpha version of which was made available to the public in April 2023, offers many advantages over the current ETC, including a new interface with more options for users to organize and share their calculations, more complex source morphologies, and sets of example and science workbooks. Additionally, cross-mission proposals are facilitated by bringing the HST and JWST ETCs to the same platform. We demonstrate the process of creating HST calculations using the new interface on the current alpha version, highlighting the differences and new features, and request feedback for improving the user experience.
