Presentation #116.03 in the session Making the Future Brighter for Astronomy.
The U.S. Extremely Large Telescope Program (US-ELTP) will require observing proposals to include a Research Inclusion (RI) Plan to apply for telescope time, in which aspects of equity, diversity and inclusion of a project are judged alongside science and data management plans. In addition to writing meaningful inclusion plans, astronomers must also be prepared to assess inclusion plans, as observing proposals are evaluated via peer review. Thus, US-ELTP’s RI Initiative has developed a Toolkit of Collaborative Practice to provide the astronomy community with a framework for writing and assessing RI Plans. This presentation highlights how our Toolkit of Collaborative Practice will provide a framework for the assessment of inclusion plans, and details how we plan to continue developing this resource for the Astronomy and Astrophysics community.
