Two-Eyed Seeing: Advancing the Field through Collective Dynamics

“Two-eyed seeing” was coined by Albert Marshall, a Mi’kmaq elder, to describe the depth of perspective gained when perceiving the world through both an Indigenous and western lens. In this talk I will describe my approach to galactic dynamics and the interpretation of emergent behavior in dynamical systems based this principle. I will argue, through concrete examples, that bringing our collective, complex identities to our science opens transformative discovery space and enables pathways for a more inclusive, innovative astronomy culture for scientific inquiry.
