Presentation #404.03 in the session White Dwarfs.
Spectral line shapes provide mass and temperature estimates for white dwarfs (WDs), and allow us to accurately age-date them. WD ages are used to chronologically assess companions, the Milky Way, and the Universe. The White Dwarf Photosphere Experiment, an at parameter astrophysics laboratory experiment, is being used to uncover many secrets concealed within WD atmospheres; however, when it comes to replicating helium-rich WD atmospheres, or DB WDs, a major issue arises. We have noticed that the FWHM of the Helium 4471Å emission line matches with theory, but the absorption is much narrower in comparison. An analysis of this data is necessary to unveil whether this is a physical phenomenon or not.
