Presentation #106.38 in the session Solar Eruptive Events: Posters.
Romashets, Vandas, and Poedts (2007) and Vandas and Romashets (2013) developed a model for propagation of toroidal magnetic cloud from solar corona to the Earth’s orbit. In this work, we apply the model for the 17-18 August 2017 interplanetary magnetic cloud. The spiral structure of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) is reconstructed first, and then dynamics of the cloud is calculated. The diamagnetic force produced by the ambient IMF, the drag force of slower solar wind plasma, and gravity pull by the Sun are considered. Three components of acceleration, velocity, and position are found. We will also present the finding on rotation of the cloud around its axis.
