Electron observations in Europa’s wake from Juno flyby

A recent Juno spacecraft flyby of Europa returned new observations of plasma electrons with unprecedented resolution. The Jovian Auroral Distributions Experiment (JADE) observed magnetic field-aligned electron beams near Europa. We present plasma electron distributions and how these distributions evolve during the flyby from Jupiter’s plasma disk population to Europa’s wake. These electron distributions can locally enhance electron-impact-excited emissions and ionization in Europa’s atmosphere. These observations provide new insight into Europa’s interactions with its space environment.
