Presentation #104.06 in the session Icy Moon Surfaces and Interiors.
The Cassini spacecraft’s Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (UVIS) instrument collected over 13 years of ultraviolet data of the icy satellites of Saturn, including Titan. We are pleased to announce the public release of a newly calibrated and reorganized Titan UVIS dataset to the Planetary Data System (PDS). The data cover wavelengths between 56 and 190 nm and the extensive set of observations has been packaged into FITS files, containing both raw and calibrated data, calibration matrices, and a detailed geometry backbone. Additionally, geometry video files that fully visualize and reconstruct the UVIS slit position throughout each observation are included in the PDS archive. This effort aims to enhance the accessibility and usability of the Cassini-UVIS data for the planetary science community.
The Titan UVIS dataset is designed to be used with a specialized visualization and spectral analysis software tailored for Titan but also adaptable for other Cassini-UVIS targets, such as the icy moons and Saturn’s rings. This software, featuring a graphical user interface, enables users to search through the publicly released data and conduct basic scientific investigations of interest, such has first order spectral analysis. The software will significantly improve the scientific community’s ability to access and analyze UVIS imaging spectroscopic data, producing publication-quality visualizations of key parameters such as airglow brightness, altitude profiles, and surface reflectance. In this presentation, we will provide a short demo of the software capabilities for Titan’s observations.
